Navigation technology developer TomTom announced the launch of a new iPhone application promising the same user interface, turn-by-turn spoken travel directions and routing services available in its portable navigation devices. According to TomTom, the iPhone app features the firm's exclusive IQ Routes technology, which bases recommended travel according to the actual experience of TomTom drivers to calculate the most efficient route and generate accurate arrival times--TomTom adds that IQ Routes enables drivers to reach their destination more quickly up to 35 percent of the time.

Additional TomTom app for iPhone features include automatic re-routing if a turn is missed, demos or map of route when trip planning, and Tele Atlas maps of the U.S., Canada, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. TomTom adds the app is fully optimized for the iPhone interface, offering multiple display options including landscape and portrait navigation view, screen visibility in varying light conditions and multi-touch gestures such as tap, swipe, pinch and zoom.
