Jason AnkenyJust because mobile enterprise applications aren't sexy doesn't mean they're not hot. According to recent Frost & Sullivan research, mobile enterprise app sales in North America generated annual revenues topping $2.8 billion in 2009, a figure projected to close in on $11 billion by 2015--firms investing in mobile software cite a multitude of benefits, among them reduced paperwork, accelerated service response times, more accurate billing and improved customer services. It's not only Fortune 500 corporations embracing mobile solutions, either: In recent months, both AT&T (NYSE:T) and Sprint (NYSE:S) have launched online application storefronts promoting mobile solutions targeted for the small business segment. No wonder wireless industry association CTIA renamed its annual fall conference CTIA Enterprise & Applications this time around, a decisive move away from the entertainment and multimedia services that were for so long a vital component of the event's identity.

FierceMobileContent's fifth annual Top Mobile Applications Awards honor 10 enterprise applications at the top of the corporate ladder--apps designed to improve your workday on an everyday basis, no matter what your profession or how much time you spend outside the office. The list includes apps designed to enhance productivity, foster collaboration among colleagues and sharpen time management skills--some leverage the cloud and others exploit smartphone signatures like GPS, but all deliver on the promises inherent in mobile technology, and all boast the potential to revolutionize how and where you do your job. In short, they're applications that work, and they do it well.
