Trend: Digital home networks to go mobile

Tools

According to a new study conducted by ABI Research, consumer product vendors, content providers and mobile operators are working together to allow consumers to access personal content from their mobile devices over the home WiFi network or the traditional mobile network. ABI cites Motorola's Follow Me TV offering and those from Sling Media and Orb Networks, which each transfer live TV feeds to an end-user's laptop or mobile phone over the Internet. The connection of the mobile phone to the home network could spell trouble for carriers looking to increase ARPU by selling content to the consumer on portal. This shift would mark a significant trend toward the ultimate "off-portal" offering, the television in the living room.
