Research In Motion (NASDAQ:RIMM) released version 2.1 of its Twitter for BlackBerry mobile social networking application, enabling users to simultaneously tweet messages across multiple accounts.

BlackBerry 2.1 multi-account support

Twitter for BlackBerry 2.1 enables users to access up to five different Twitter accounts.

Available via BlackBerry App World for smartphones running BlackBerry Device Software 5.0 and up, Twitter for BlackBerry 2.1 enables users to access up to five different Twitter accounts. When logged into multiple accounts, the current user name will appear in the upper-left corner of the header bar, with the user picture in the My Profile icon--BlackBerry owners can toggle between Twitter accounts by using the Switch Account function, accessible from My Profile or via the menu. Users can cross-post tweets and re-tweets from one account to another without switching the current account view, and stay on top of mentions and messages with near real-time notifications for each Twitter account.

Twitter for BlackBerry 2.1 also enables users to leverage the Social Feeds feature to view a stream of tweets from up to five Twitter accounts in a single timeline, or opt to filter individual Twitter accounts. In addition, the revamp improves tweet sharing among BlackBerry Messenger contacts, adding the Share with BBM feature as a top-level menu item.

RIM first released Twitter for BlackBerry in April 2010. Twitter now boasts more than 100 million active users, 55 percent of whom are active on mobile devices.
