Twitter partners with Bharti Airtel for SMS tweeting
Microblogging juggernaut Twitter announced an agreement with Indian mobile operator giant Bharti Airtel to offer the carrier's 110 million-plus subscribers Twitter access via SMS. Airtel consumers can now send tweets at standard messaging rates and receive tweets for free. "Bharti Airtel is offering people in every city, every village, every remote taluk and even the smallest panchayat the opportunity to connect to Twitter and enjoy the open exchange of information with no added fees," writes Twitter co-founder and creative director Biz Stone on the Twitter Blog. Twitter also offers full SMS services in the U.S., Canada, New Zealand and the U.K.
