Two thirds of mobile game execs expect sales growth in '09
Forty-three percent of mobile gaming executives say their game sales are up on year-ago totals, according to a study published by The Multimedia Research Consultancy. Although 29 percent of respondents--spanning 147 senior executives from 136 mobile games organizations in 38 countries--indicate their sales are down from the previous year, 66 percent of all respondents anticipate their mobile games sales will rise in the next 12 months despite the economic downturn, with only 11 percent forecasting a decline.
Apple's iPhone is now rated as the most successful development platform/operating system by 71 percent of mobile game execs, according to the MRC report. In addition, 77 percent of respondents said Apple's App Store has "revolutionized the way that mobile games are sold," adding the virtual storefront's success threatens existing distribution patterns.
