Universal Music Group tunes up 'Six-String' app

Universal Music Group announced the introduction of Six-String, a premium iPhone application promising a virtual guitar experience incorporating original master recordings of chart-topping hits. According to UMG, Six-String requires users to pluck, strum and change chords a la the smash Guitar Hero franchise--players can hone their skills in either Practice Mode or Studio Mode, and after the game's first month, the label will award a Fender Stratocaster to the player topping the Six-String Hall of Fame leaderboard. Users can also post score updates to Facebook, Twitter and email.

Priced at $4.99, Six-String comes with half a dozen tracks: Bon Jovi's "You Give Love a Bad Name," Tom Petty's "Runnin' Down a Dream," Fall Out Boy's "Thnks Fr Th Mmrs," Peter Frampton's "Show Me the Way," Orianthi's "According to You" and the Scorpions' "Raised on Rock." Twenty additional game tracks are available for in-app purchase, including songs from Beck, Dashboard Confessional, Maroon 5, No Doubt, Robert Palmer and Wolfmother. Users can also purchase the corresponding song, video and ringtone from Apple's iTunes media storefront.
