Urban Airship has raised another $25 million in funding to expand its mobile marketing platform to additional partners in the U.S. and abroad. August Capital led the new round, with existing investors Foundry Group, Intel Capital, True Ventures and Verizon (NYSE:VZ) also participating. Urban Airship has raised $46.6 million to date.

Urban Airship enables mobile developers and publishers to connect with consumers via targeted, context-aware services including push notifications, in-app purchases and subscriptions. The firm said the new funding will accelerate its efforts in location-based messaging and digital wallet services: Late last year, Urban Airship acquired Tello, whose PassTools product includes tools for creating and managing passes and tickets optimized for Apple's (NASDAQ:AAPL) Passbook virtual wallet.

Urban Airship CEO Scott Kveton told AllThingsD the company also will seek to sign more direct brand partnerships. The firm currently boasts agreements with CBS Interactive, ESPN, Groupon, shopkick, Walgreens, Warner Bros. and Waze.

Although Urban Airship does not disclose its revenues, Kveton told OregonLive the company increased 400 percent in 2012. The company's workforce also doubled last year to nearly 120, and Kveton expects the staff to double again this year.
