Useful Networks debuts Snocator
An early-season blizzard just dumped four feet of snow on South Dakota--what better time to introduce a mobile application optimized for skiers and snowboarders? Mobile location technology provider Useful Networks launched the Snocator, an iPhone app that uses interactive GPS trail maps to show users exactly where they are on the mountain and help plan out their next descent, picturing in detail all nearby lifts, runs, lodges and terrain parks. The Snocator also offers snow reports, mountain cams and weather forecasts. According to Useful Networks, the mapping feature spans most ski resorts in the U.S. and Canada, with snow reports and meteorological info available for most ski resorts worldwide--the firm adds future Snocator releases will feature tools to enable users to track their runs as well as find family and friends on the mountain.
