Valve Software expands Steam gaming platform to iOS, Android
Valve Software, creators of the Steam desktop gaming platform, is expanding to mobile devices with the new Steam app, available for devices running Apple's (NASDAQ:AAPL) iOS and Google's (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android.
The Steam platform is home to bestselling franchises including Counter-Strike, Half-Life and Left 4 Dead. Steam offers roughly 1,800 titles in all, with more than 40 million PC and Mac accounts worldwide. The new app (currently in beta) enables gamers to chat with Steam friends, browse community groups and user profiles, view screenshots and user-generated content, access gaming news and track Steam sales.
According to Valve Software, users seeking to join the beta should download the free Steam application and log in to their Steam account within the app to express interest. Gamers will be added to the beta as the service ramps up.
