VC news: Quattro Wireless, Groove Mobile score big

Mobile advertising service provider Quattro Wireless announced it secured $12.3 million in Series B funding led by Globespan Capital Partners and Highland Capital Partners, bringing the company's total venture investment to $18 million. Quattro matches global advertisers with exclusive publisher inventory--clients include Gillette, Univision, Playboy, NFL.com, CoverGirl, and TheStreet.com. The Series B funding is earmarked to launch Quattro's GetMobile platform, a self-service solution enabling advertisers and publishers to build, monetize and measure their mobile presence via Quattro's proprietary "juicing" technology, ad inventory and reporting capabilities. "This funding will allow Quattro to expand its mission to provide publishers with the tools to develop a dynamic, mobile web presence across all carriers and handsets while offering advertisers a deep network of exclusive publisher inventory to build brand awareness and maximize direct response dollars from mobile," said Quattro CEO Andy Miller in a prepared statement.

In other VC news, mobile music service provider Groove Mobile announced an additional $6 million in funding from ORIX Venture Finance, bringing its total capital financing to date to $32 million. Following on the heels of recent deals with Vodafone, MTS Allstream and Sony BMG, Groove Mobile has completed 35 million download transactions since launching in 2004. "With this additional funding from ORIX, we will continue to expand our services and seek out new opportunities for wireless carriers and record labels to provide the latest mobile entertainment solutions to consumers," said Groove Mobile chairman and CEO Eric Giler in a prepared statement.
