VeriSign, Western Union team on m-payment pilot
Network infrastructure services provider VeriSign's Messaging and Mobile Media division announced an agreement with payment solutions provider Western Union to enable specialty finance firm Consumer Portfolio Services' customers to trigger their monthly auto payment directly from their mobile handset. According to VeriSign, the service does not direct consumers to a website or interactive voice response system, but instead offers text message payments based on debit or credit card information entered online. Once the consumer has confirmed enrollment, VeriSign transmits monthly alerts indicating the amount due--from there, the user submits payment approval via Western Union Speedpay mobile transaction, and Western Union processes the payment and credits the consumer's CPS account. The pilot program will run for approximately three months, at which time it will be evaluated for additional rollout.
