Verizon debuts John Legend album

Tools

Here we go… Verizon Wireless is making several full-songs and music videos from the new John Legend album "Once Again" available exclusively on the VCast Music service, almost two months before the album's Oct. 24 street date. The carrier dabbled in such exclusive arrangements earlier in the year with the reunited Fugees album, as well.

It's exclusives like these that will spark the interest and demand in wireless music download services. It's a perfect win-win for both the carrier and the label. Exclusives drive traffic and usage to the VCast Music service by fans hungry for new music they can't get elsewhere, while at the same time generating buzz and excitement over the pending album drop for the label. Frankly, I'm surprised it took this long, and fully expect this to become the norm as Sprint, Verizon and other wireless music services vie for the exclusive sales rights to the hottest acts.
