Verizon duets with Pearl Jam on mobile bootlegs
Verizon Wireless announced a partnership with venerable alt-rock band Pearl Jam to expand the group's bootleg effort to the mobile platform. Verizon will offer subscribers exclusive mobile access to live recordings from each date on Pearl Jam's 12-city summer 2008 tour, scheduled to begin tonight in West Palm Beach, Fla.; after each performance, the band's studio engineer will mix three songs on the Verizon Mobile Recording Studio Bus, with one full-length song available free via the operator's V Cast Music service and the other two (also available as ringtones and ringbacks) offered at standard premium prices. In addition, Pearl Jam will support Verizon's HopeLine initiative, which collects unused handsets to support victims of domestic violence. Earlier this year, Verizon teamed with Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder to release a custom mobile video featuring the singer's Grammy-nominated "Guaranteed," the theme from director Sean Penn's acclaimed feature film Into the Wild.
