In an interview with FierceMobileContent during the recent Consumer Electronics Show, Verizon Wireless' executive director of consumer solutions Kristi Crum said the operator believes consumers desire a more simplified approach to apps and content. "We want consumers to find value in the network and we need services to do that," Crum said, adding that the company will likely offer more bundled packages in the future.
Subscribers can sign up for the Smartphone App Pack via the My Verizon app, available on many Android, BlackBerry and iOS devices. The operator notes that customers already using one of the applications in the bundle can upgrade to the full Smartphone App Pack at little to no additional cost.
Smartphone App Pack arrives days in advance of Super Bowl XLVI, airing Feb. 5--for the first time, the National Football League will stream its championship game live to digital platforms in the U.S. market, including Verizon's NFL Mobile app. NBC Postseason Extra coverage will bolster the on-field action with multiple camera angles, DVR controls and social interactivity.
During the regular season, NFL Mobile streams NBC's marquee Sunday Night Football telecast, ESPN's venerable Monday Night Football franchise, the NFL Network's eight-game Thursday Night Football slate and the NFL RedZone network, which delivers every touchdown and key play from Sunday afternoon's action. NFL Mobile also features news, scores and schedules, video-on-demand footage, live audio broadcasts of all games and Verizon's Fantasy Football Tracker, which touts deep integration with the NFL.com Fantasy Football platform.
Verizon Wireless announced its four-year NFL sponsorship agreement in March 2010, taking over as the league's exclusive mobile media partner as well as its official wireless service sponsor, roles previously filled by Sprint (NYSE: S). According to The Wall Street Journal, the deal is valued at $720 million, including a rights fee and advertising spending--the earlier Sprint package was valued at $120 million.
