Verizon, NHL team for mobile video alerts

Tools

Verizon Wireless and the National Hockey League announced the launch of NHL game video alerts, promising to deliver puck fans in-game video highlights moments after they take place. Calling the alerts a first for all professional sports leagues, Verizon Wireless said each 15-second video message will spotlight critical goals, key saves and other game-changing plays. (No fights? C'mon, where are the fights?) The alerts are sent to subscribers following each period, including overtime, with a maximum of four alerts per day. The NHL service costs $2.99 per month per selected franchise. "The immediacy of mobile makes it a perfect partner for sporting events like NHL games--our customers get to stay connected to the entertainment they love, but with the freedom and flexibility of mobility," said Verizon vice president of digital programming Ryan Hughes in a prepared statement.
