Verizon offers Optimized View for Mobile Web

Tools

Verizon Wireless announced an agreement with mobile web platform provider Novarra to introduce Optimized View for Mobile Web, promising subscribers access to a majority of mobile sites in full HTML view regardless of whether their device supports a full HTML browser. According to Verizon, the service enables customers to now view websites or images that were previously unavailable on their devices, enabling a mobile experience comparable to the PC environment. The operator adds that mobile sites will now load on handset screens in an average of less than 10 seconds. The Optimized View solution is based on Novarra's Vision platform, and works automatically each time a Verizon subscriber visits a new mobile web destination.

Transcoding through Novarra's platform utterly destroys webpages and makes them even less usable than if the page hadn't loaded at all.
The division and paginating of content, the indiscriminate style stripping and automated reordering of items amounts can be described as vandalism of third-party property.
The only way to get usable, brand-faithful and mobile targeted mobile web content to mobile devices is to build and serve specifically for their browsers.
I defy anyone to achieve a usable experience of a half decent website that has been mashed by Novarra.
There are plenty of Mobile Internet Publishing Solutions out there that allow the easy creation of mobile internet sites that automatically repurpose to visiting devices. There are even ways to deliver mobile friendly content from an application level.
Automated transcoding is the fastest way to make users think that internet on mobile is rubbish. Who benefits from that?
