Verizon preloading Opera Mini browser across feature phones
Verizon Wireless (NYSE:VZ) has rolled out the Opera Mini mobile browser across select feature phones, indicating plans to preload the application across additional handsets later this year. Verizon subscribers owning the LG enV2, LG enV3, LG enV Touch, Samsung Alias 2, Casio G'zOne Ravine and Casio G'zOne Rock may now download Opera Mini from either the Media Center/Get It Now portal or the Verizon Wireless online media store--the carrier notes there is no subscription fee to access Opera Mini, although data and usage charges may apply while downloading and using the app.
Opera Mini touts PC-like web access on mobile device screens--the solution compresses webpages to one tenth of their original size, accelerating page delivery speeds while reducing data usage and fees. In February, Opera announced that more than 90 million users worldwide access the browser each month. Last week, Opera introduced Opera Mini 6, promising improved scrolling, panning and zooming alongside pinch-to-zoom and a new social media sharing button.
