Verizon premieres Blockbuster On Demand on V Cast via Droid X
Verizon Wireless and movie rental chain Blockbuster announced Blockbuster on Demand, a new V Cast Video application debuting in conjunction with Motorola's forthcoming Droid X smartphone, slated to hit retail July 15. Blockbuster on Demand (first introduced earlier this year via T-Mobile USA's HTC HD2 device) touts hundreds of new feature film releases available for download the same day they appear on DVD and Blu-ray--titles can be purchased for $9.99 or rented for $3.99, with downloads requiring a WiFi connection. Verizon added that while subscribers can view purchased films across any Blockbuster-enabled device, rentals are only available for viewing on one screen--rental titles are available for 30 days, with a 24-hour viewing period once the video is first played.
The Droid X features a 4.3-inch high-resolution screen alongside a dual-flash, 8-megapixel camera, HD camcorder and DLNA and HDMI connectivity to download, stream and share personal HD content. Verizon Wireless said it plans to an over-the-air update to the Android 2.2. operating system and Adobe Flash Player 10.1 multimedia solution later this summer. The Droid X also connects to Google's Android Market, which now features more than 65,000 applications.
