Verizon Wireless gets Loopt
Verizon Wireless announced it will introduce the Loopt social mapping service. The opt-in location-based service enables subscribers to share their whereabouts and activities with friends via interactive maps--users may also share location updates, geo-tagged photos and comments with friends in their mobile address book or on online social networks, communities and blogs. The Loopt service also emphasizes privacy controls and user security--subscribers share their location data solely with known friends on private networks. They may also disable location sharing at any time, either on a friend-by-friend basis or in one fell swoop. Loopt is available on select Verizon handsets for $3.99 per month.
