Verizon Wireless goes off-road with Trimble

Tools

Verizon Wireless and mobile solutions provider Trimble announced the launch of Trimble Outdoors, a new location-based application targeting adventure enthusiasts. Available on select Verizon GPS-enabled handsets for $5.99 a month or $1.99 for one-day purchase, Trimble Outdoors features trip planning software as well as off-road navigation and journaling tools optimized for activities like hiking, backpacking, fishing and hunting. Customers can pre-plan and review their trips online using a map-based trip editor or the Trimble Adventure Planner desktop software, complete with guided trips, routes, maps and waypoints--once the trek begins, subscribers may also access maps of their locations, track their routes via GPS breadcrumb trail and mark and edit waypoints. A digital compass displays current coordinates, speed and heading. An online library offers professional and user-generated trips in addition to maps in topographic, street and aerial views.
