Tools

With the 75th National Football League Draft scheduled to kick off April 22, Verizon Wireless announced the launch of NFL Mobile, a free news and information application optimized for select smartphones and multimedia devices including the Motorola Droid, BlackBerry Storm and Storm2, HTC Droid Eris and Samsung Rogue. Featuring in-depth profiles of current NFL players and draft prospects, team updates, mock drafts, expert analysis and related content, the exclusive NFL Mobile app also includes NFL Network content, highlighted by live coverage of the 2010 NFL Draft, which this year moves to primetime and expands to three days of selections.

Verizon Wireless will add new features in the weeks ahead, including training camp updates and preseason tilts; once the regular season begins, NFL Mobile will deliver live streaming simulcasts of NBC's Sunday Night Football and NFL Network's Thursday Night Football alongside live radio broadcasts of all games, fantasy information, news, and player and team statistics. The app will also feature NFL RedZone, a NFL Network spinoff channel airing airs live or near-live look-ins featuring every key play and touchdown from the Sunday afternoon slate.

NFL Mobile is available now for Android users, who can download the app from the Verizon Channel in Android Market. BlackBerry users can download the app from their smartphone browser, with virtual homescreen preloads to follow over the next weeks. NFL Mobile will remain a free download through Dec. 31.

Verizon Wireless announced its four-year NFL sponsorship agreement in early March, taking over as the league's exclusive mobile media partner as well as its official wireless service sponsor, roles previously filled by Sprint. According to The Wall Street Journal, the new deal is valued at $720 million, including a rights fee and advertising spending--the earlier Sprint package was valued at $120 million.
