Verizon Wireless revamps V Cast Music for Android

Tools

Verizon Wireless (NYSE:VZ) updated its V Cast Music application for Android smartphones, bringing together full-track downloads, ringtones and ringbacks in one solution. V Cast Music will offer over-the-air downloads at 69 cents, 99 cents or $1.29 per song--songs can be moved from the Android phone to the user's computer or other MP3-compatible device via V Cast Media Manager. In addition, Verizon will offer discounted bundles assembling full-track, ringtone and ringback versions of the same song; subscribers can manage ringback jukeboxes that rotate messages each time a caller dials their mobile number. V Cast Music also features a wish list giving users the tools to track future purchases as well as send song recommendations to friends and family. V Cast Music comes preloaded on select Android smartphones--existing subscribers will be prompted to upgrade the next time they launch the app.

Mobile music services are expected to generate annual worldwide revenues of $5.5 billion by 2015, up from $3.1 billion in 2010, according to a new forecast http://www.fiercemobilecontent.com/press-releases/mobile-music-revenues-reach-55-billion-2015-although-growth-threatened-onli issued by Juniper Research. However, the firm warns that piracy poses a significant threat on mobile platforms as well as online, noting that P2P file sharing applications like BitTorrent are now available for download via Google's (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android Market.
