Tools

Music video and entertainment website Vevo's new application for Apple's (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhone and iPod touch surpassed 1 million downloads in its first week of release, rising to number one on the App Store's countdown of most popular free apps and music apps as well as earning App of the Week honors from the Apple iTunes staff. Owned by Sony Music Entertainment, Universal Music Group and Abu Dhabi Media Company, Vevo--launched in late 2009--boasts a catalog surpassing 20,000 videos from over 7,000 artists; Vevo Mobile promises premium-quality video clips, discovery and sharing tools, playlist creation options and exclusive video premieres, along with video sharing via Facebook and Twitter. Users can also leverage the iPhone's GPS features to discover content viewed by other Vevo users in their immediate area, and download music from each clip via iTunes.

In conjunction with the introduction of the iPhone app, Vevo also launched Ask:Reply!, a new original series featuring artists responding to fan questions submitted using Twitter and Facebook. The first installment, starring singer Ke$ha, is available exclusively with the app--future editions are slated to spotlight Maroon 5, David Archuleta, Ciara and Grace Potter. Vevo adds it is at work on Vevo Mobile applications optimized for Google's Android and other platforms.
