Visto acquires Good Technology from Motorola
Struggling handset maker Motorola will sell its Good Technology mobile email unit to mobile push and synchronization platform Visto. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, although The Wall Street Journal said it anticipates the price tag will likely represent a steep drop from the $500 million Motorola spent to acquire Good Technology in January 2007 in a bid to compete with rival manufacturer Research In Motion, the firm behind the BlackBerry messaging device portfolio. Both Motorola and Visto expect the transaction to close by the end of this month.
Good Technology specializes in offering messaging, mobile VPN data access, device management and handheld security solutions. According to Visto, the Good acquisition will complement its existing operator presence in business and consumer markets, enabling the company to provide expanded services to customers across more than 400 different devices in over 100 countries.
