Vodafone enters Second Life for Inside Out
Vodafone announced the beta launch of Vodafone Inside Out, a mobile platform created in conjunction with virtual environment Second Life enabling subscribers to contact other Second Life avatars via real-world handsets. The service will enable Second Life users to communicate offline as long as one is online--offline users can also send messages in the virtual world, as well as send and receive texts credited to their virtual identity on their real-life mobile. Vodafone will assign unique numbers for calls and texts, and will offer free virtual handsets available from the Inside Out vending machine. The Second Life will be free until the end of November--Vodafone will advertise Inside Out exclusively in Second Life news publications The AvaStar and Metaverse Messenger.
