Vodafone launches mobile widget competition

Tools

European telecoms giant Vodafone launched a new competition inviting developers to submit their mobile web widgets for a chance to win a top prize totaling £20,000 (about $28,700 U.S.). Launched via the operator's Betavine R&D program, the contest is open to all registered Betavine community developers--all entries must be written in English, based on the Opera for Mobile 9.5 platform and optimized for the Nokia 6210, Nokia N78, Nokia N95 8gb and Nokia N96 devices. Vodafone will judge the widgets according to usability, innovation and value to subscribers. In addition to the cash prize, the winner will receive a commitment from Vodafone to promote the widget in one of the company's major markets--two runners-up will also win £1,000 in cash. The Betavine Widget Competition runs now through Apr. 30.
