Operator Vodafone UK announced an exclusive agreement with mobile music service provider Omnifone to launch its MusicStation subscription service. Per terms of the deal, Vodafone subscribers will receive unlimited downloads from the MusicStation catalog--featuring more than a million tracks from major labels Universal Music Group, Sony BMG Music Entertainment, EMI Music and Warner Music Group--for about $4.00 per week. The service will operate via existing Vodafone 2.5G and 3G handsets as well as a series of new music-themed devices the carrier will launch for the holiday season, including the Nokia N95 8GB and N81, the Samsung F700 and F210 and the Sony Ericsson W910i, V640i and W960i.

"We're building on the momentum of our Vodafone Mobile Internet launch and our commitment to music through the Vodafone TBAs and our Vodafone Live Music Awards," said Vodafone UK CMO Tim Yates in a prepared statement. "Today's announcement is a first for music on the mobile in the U.K. and means a fundamental change to the way people experience music on their phones. Vodafone is bringing unlimited music downloads on a wide range of handsets for under £2 a week."
