Vodafone, Yahoo team for mobile ads
British operator Vodafone has signed an exclusive mobile advertising deal with Internet giant Yahoo that will offer subscribers the opportunity to receive ad content via their wireless handsets in exchange for discounted products and services. The discounts will vary according to whether users agree to text ads, display ads or streaming video ads.
News of the deal coincided with a speech delivered by Yahoo CEO Terry Semel to the U.K. marketing trade association, the Internet Advertising Bureau. Semel urged the audience to embrace social media platforms, proclaiming the growth of mobile, video and IPTV services will launch online advertising to new revenue heights. "Media consumption is now about connecting all devices," Semel told the IAB. "Advertising on mobile phones will definitely happen."
