Vringo inks Facetones preload deal with Android smartphone maker ZTE

Tools

Handset manufacturer ZTE will preload mobile social video solutions firm Vringo's Facetones application on its future Android smartphones, enabling users to create automated video slideshows that play each time they make or receive a phone call.

Launched earlier this year via international operators including Japan's NTT DoCoMo and Spain's Telefonica, Facetones builds slideshows out of images drawn from the user's social media networks and photo websites. The app currently integrates with the Facebook platform, although Vringo has stated it will expand the app to additional social networks and photo sites in the near future.

Last month, Vringo announced an agreement to offer Facetones as a premium download via the Verizon Wireless (NYSE:VZ) V Cast Apps storefront. In July, Vringo closed a $2.5 million private placement led by Benchmark Capital and DAG Ventures. Around the same time, the company acquired mobile messaging startup Zlango--earlier this year, Vringo also purchased mobile software as a service platform provider m-Wise.

ZTE touts smartphone partnerships with more than 65 mobile operators across the U.S. and Europe. The firm also supplies custom-made Android smartphones to the three largest Chinese operators.
