Wal-Mart launches mobile content portal

Retail giant Wal-Mart has quietly launched its own mobile content storefront and WAP portal in conjunction direct-to-consumer mobile media firm PlayPhone. Wal-Mart will promote its content site and short-code program via point-of-sale efforts across its 4,121 U.S. brick-and-mortar outlets, beginning with ringtones spotlighting country-rock geezers the Eagles, who issued their new LP Long Road Out of Eden as a Wal-Mart/Sam's Club exclusive. According to a Wal-Mart spokesperson, it will expand its mobile music efforts in the months to follow.
