The Wall Street Journal expands to Android tablets

The Wall Street Journal will extend its Tablet Edition application to tablet devices running Google's Android mobile operating system. Touting full-screen video, market data and customizable features, WSJ Tablet Edition for Android includes full sections from each day's newspaper, including, including What's News, Opinion, Marketplace, Money & Investing, Greater New York, Personal Journal and WSJ Weekend--users can swipe through from section to section or from article to article. According to parent firm Dow Jones & Company, the application is designed to download each day's issue timed to coincide with its print publication, translating to a more efficient download.

WSJ Tablet Edition for Android is free for download from Google's Android Market storefront; a $3.99 weekly subscription is required to access all content and features, and includes corresponding access across the WSJ.com website as well as the publication's multiple smartphone applications. For a limited time, current Journal subscribers will receive full access to the WSJ Tablet Edition for free.

The Wall Street Journal leads all other U.S. newspapers in terms of total paid circulation according to the latest Audit Bureau of Circulation data. The Journal increased circulation 1.8 percent year over year, growing to 2,061,142 in September 2010 from 2,024,269 12 months earlier. Circulation revenue grew 7 percent year over year during the same period.
