The Wall Street Journal unveils free iPhone app

Tools

The Wall Street Journal is the latest news publication to release a customized mobile application for Apple's iPhone and iPod touch devices. Boasting financial news headlines, editor's picks and browsing across multiple categories as well as video and radio content, the ad-supported WSJ app is available from Apple's App Store as a free download, which is somewhat surprising given that the publication charges readers $103 per year for an online subscription and $140 for an annual subscription to its print edition. (It's even more surprising given that earlier this month, Journal editor Robert Thomson described firms that aggregate mainstream media content without paying a premium fee as "parasites or tech tapeworms in the intestines of the Internet.")
