Walt Disney to launch MVNO in U.K.

Tools

While the head of Disney Mobile in the U.S., George Grobar, has mentioned vague plans about launching a similar MVNO service in the U.K., the first details of the service are starting to break. Disney will rent airtime on O2's network (Spain's Telefonica recently acquired O2 for $31.4 billion). According to a report from AFX, the U.K. service sounds identical to the U.S. one: Parents will be able to limit children's spending, phone time and contacts. The article also mentions the service enabling parents to "block access to specified Web sites," which either means the reporter got it wrong or the service will feature heavy data services. Kids cruising the Internet on Lilo & Stitch handsets? Seems unlikely.
