Warner Music Group enters mobile gaming biz
Warner Music Group has quietly introduced a mobile game featuring hip hop phenom T.I. The game, T.I. Racing, is live now on the T-Mobile network and will be launch on Verizon Wireless this week. It features not only T.I.'s likeness, but also voice and music. WMG's SVP strategy and product development George White says it is the first of several mobile games in development that will feature the label's roster of artists.
However, WMG is hardly the first to do so. 50 Cent and G-Unit created the first mobile game around a music act with the release of last year's "Free Yayo," developed in conjunction with Zingy. Hudson Entertainment earlier released a mobile wrestling game featuring the members of hip hop group D12 and just this month introduced a Bob Marley game as well. Meanwhile, other labels are looking closely at the prospect of using mobile games as a way of further promoting their artists and generating new revenues.
