Warner Music, Motorola duet on content deal
News out of the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas: Warner Music Group and Motorola announced a global strategic partnership to create new mobile music services, a pact the two companies touted as the first of its kind inked by a record label and a handset manufacturer. Per terms of the agreement, Motorola will offer consumers exclusive Warner ringtones, music videos and wallpapers, and will deliver the content either as over-the-air premiums or as pre-loaded freebies. Motorola and WMG also will team on the development of digital products, marketing campaigns and strategic planning, and work closely with carriers to see their initiatives to market.
The Motorola/WMG deal should bear fruit as soon as the second half of 2007, when the handset maker launches its MOTO Experience Pack, a single-file mobile download that contains a suite of music-based multimedia products and applications. "Exclusive access to content from Warner's world-renowned roster of artists enables our mobile phone consumers to further enrich and personalize their mobile multimedia experiences," said Motorola Mobile Devices corporate VP Scott Durchslag in a prepared statement. "We think this venture has potential to serve as a successful template for building relationships with other music and entertainment entities around the world."
