The Weather Channel debuts free BlackBerry app

Tools

The Weather Channel Mobile introduced a new ad-supported version of its BlackBerry weather application, adding expandable banner advertisements alongside features including GPS-based Location Tracker and interactive radar maps. Available for download from the BlackBerry App World storefront and via the BlackBerry browser, the Weather Channel for BlackBerry includes interactive radar maps as well as current conditions, hourly, 36-hour and 10-day forecasts--users can share severe weather alerts, conditions and forecasts with friends and contacts via e-mail or text message directly from the app. In addition, the app integrates with the BlackBerry calendar and address book, enabling customers to check weather for daily appointments and stored contacts.

The Weather Channel for BlackBerry's new banner ads enable users to click directly to the web, to video, to locations or to call without closing the application. According to The Weather Channel, the app was developed in response to industry feedback indicating that advertisers are looking for solutions where consumers can interact with the creative without redirection to another site.
