Yahoo announces revamped mobile search
Also at CES, Yahoo introduced the beta version of its Yahoo Go for Mobile 2.0 search application, created to offer consumers faster and more specific answers to their handset queries. Features include oneSearch, which Yahoo says recognizes the intent of a specific search term and offers relevant results grouped by content; the Local & Maps widget, a consumer directory with user ratings and reviews; and a Flickr-branded photo sharing widget. Yahoo said it expects to distribute the Go 2.0 service via international operators including Bharti Airtel, Globe Telecom, Hutchison India and Rogers Wireless; Motorola, Nokia, Research in Motion and Opera will all announced as additional partners.
"Yahoo intends to be the number one mobile Internet player globally," said Yahoo senior VP Marco Boerries in a prepared statement. "We are changing the game by putting the full power of the open Internet into consumers' pockets."
