Yahoo Go will stop in 2010

Yahoo confirmed it will pull the plug on its Yahoo Go mobile application early next year. Introduced for BlackBerry, Windows Mobile and Symbian devices in 2006, the Go app featured a carousel-like homepage incorporating access to multiple Yahoo mobile services including search, messaging, weather, news and stock information--after debuting Yahoo Go 3.0 in early 2008, the web services giant essentially halted further Go development as it shifted its focus to its mobile web efforts. "In the past 18 months, browser quality has been increasing at an accelerated rate," Yahoo's global head of mobile product marketing Adam Taggart tells CNet. "We've doubled down on our mobile web strategy."

Yahoo will officially terminate Go support on Jan. 12. Beginning today, active users will receive an email or update notice warning them of the imminent shutdown and urging them to move on to the m.yahoo.com mobile site.
