YouTube generates iPhone content
Apple announced an agreement to wirelessly stream video clips from Google-owned user-generated content site YouTube via the computing giant's forthcoming iPhone device, arriving at retail June 29. According to Apple, more than 10,000 videos will be available at iPhone launch, with YouTube on target to make its full catalog of videos available by fall 2007. In addition to the new Apple-designed application that will stream YouTube content over Wi-Fi or EDGE networks, YouTube announced it has begun encoding video content in the advanced H.264 format, which promises improved image quality and extended battery life on mobile devices.
"iPhone delivers the best YouTube mobile experience by far," said Apple CEO Steve Jobs in a prepared statement. "Now users can enjoy YouTube wherever they are."

Now that the phone is out and we can all play with it, I am noticing that YouTube doesn't have to dominate the free video market. Some of my favorite websites (including www.onnetworks.com) have options for iTunes video podcast downloads and iPhone sync. The reason I am in love with On Networks right now is because they have changed their screen ratio so my iPhone looks great with the content. YouTube is great, but its no monopoly.
