YouTube Mobile debuts; Verizon exclusive ends
User-generated video aggregator YouTube quietly launched a new mobile portal m.youtube.com over the weekend, a move that heralds the end of an exclusive mobile content partnership between parent firm Google and Verizon Wireless. Like the Verizon service, the new YouTube Mobile offers only a small selection of video clips, with categories including Featured, Recently Added, Most Viewed, Top Rated, Top Favorites, Entertainment and People. Video files are streamed rather than downloaded, effectively circumventing local storage and conversion concerns. "YouTube Mobile is a data intensive application," the site reads. "We highly recommend that you upgrade to an unlimited data plan with your mobile service."
