Z2Live completes $3 million Series A round
Multiplayer mobile game platform Z2Live announced the completion of a $3 million Series A financing round led by Madrona Venture Group, which follows about a year after Madrona supplied a $1 million seed investment in the startup. Z2Live--co-founded by Damon Danieli, a 14-year Microsoft veteran and core designer of the original Xbox Live, along with mobile content veteran David Bluhm--promises mobile game developers a multiplayer platform to create iPhone and iPod touch titles without the expense of maintaining their own dedicated servers--the firm also offers services to implement subscription-based multiplayer and social game experiences spanning genres including turn-based casual games, racing games, role-playing games and first-person "shooters." Z2Live offers its SDK free of charge in exchange for a percentage of revenues.
