Zing rings up $13M funding round

Mobile entertainment device and software developer Zing Systems announced $13 million in additional funding. IDG Ventures Boston led the round, joined by return investor Redpoint Ventures and Camp Ventures. Zing develops portable multimedia players that connect, download, manage and exchange content directly from the device via wireless protocols, circumventing PC use. Products based on the Zing Mobile Entertainment Engine include Sirius Satellite Radio's Stiletto and SanDisk's Sansa Connect. "There is enormous untapped opportunity when you can connect consumers to their music and entertainment wherever they are, without a PC," Zing CEO Tim Bucher said in a prepared statement.
