Zingy shuts down ringtone biz, re-brands as Vindigo
Zingy, a pioneer in mobile personalization products like ringtones and wallpapers, announced it will shut down its personalization division and reorganize under the name Vindigo, a brand Zingy acquired in 2005. Prior to merging with Zingy, Vindigo focused on mobile applications and advertising--after shuttering its personalization division, the new Vindigo will continue to emphasize its carrier distribution strategy, developing additional mobile applications similar to Vindigo's MapQuest Mobile, MovieGoer, and Vindigo City Guide apps as well as courting new advertising partnerships.
Scott Jensen, who previously served as Zingy's senior VP and head of business development, was appointed CEO of Vindigo. "The new Vindigo is realigned on the company's most profitable business lines," Jensen said. "Our new strategic direction leverages our strengths as market leader in network-aware applications and refocuses us on the high-growth opportunities in mobile entertainment, which today are cross-platform applications, mobile advertising and casual games. The mobile entertainment market continues to boom, and we have undertaken this reorganization to take the best advantage of where the market is today."
