Zynga rolling out HTML5-based mobile games via Facebook Platform

Social gaming giant Zynga announced it will introduce three HTML5-based mobile titles leveraging Facebook Platform APIs and developer tools. The forthcoming ZyngaPoker Mobile Web, Words With Friends HTML5 and Farmville Express promise faster load times, smoother game interactions and near-immediate responses to player actions, utilizing HTML5 tools like WebSockets and CSS3 to deliver a more seamless user experience. According to Zynga, the three titles are the first large-scale games built using HTML5.

Facebook expanded its Platform technology to the mobile ecosystem on Monday in an effort to deliver a richer, more interactive experience for the 350 million users now actively accessing the social network via mobile device. Writing on the Facebook Developer Blog, engineer Luke Shepard states Facebook is introducing a series of social channels designed to galvanize app discovery and distribution, enabling developers to more effectively leverage the social graph to market and monetize their efforts. Facebook Platform will initially support Apple's iOS (NASDAQ:AAPL) and the mobile web and is slated to expand to operating systems including Google's (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android.

Zynga games now boast 60 million daily active users and 232 million monthly active users. The firm recently stated that daily active users across mobile platforms grew more than tenfold between November 2010 and June 2011. Earlier this year, Zynga filed a $1 billion initial public offering with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
