Large wireless carriers like AT&T Mobility and Verizon Wireless are in the midst of redefining their organizations in order to take advantage of the growing mobile enterprise opportunity. And in some cases, these carriers are outselling traditional enterprise outfits like Accenture and IBM--a notable outcome as more and more enterprise functions go mobile.

Mobile traffic was a major catalyst behind the growth of online shopping on Black Friday 2012. According to IBM, 24 percent of consumers visited retailer sites from a mobile device, up from 14.3 percent on Black Friday 2011. In addition, mobile sales exceeded 16 percent, up from 9.8 percent a year earlier. 

European telecom operators have financially suffered due to competition concerns and sluggish growth, but Vodafone has the potential to outperform the market and is being rated by Deutsche Bank as one the telecom sector's top bets.

In a logical move worthy of its heritage, IBM is taking its business services expertise into the consumer space with a content delivery cloud platform designed for consumer electronics firms.

IBM made an informal offer of interest in Research In Motion's enterprise services business, according to a  Bloomberg  report. The item is the latest in a flurry of reports about RIM's business strategy and prospects.

APIs, or application programmable interfaces, are an important tool for mobile developers because they can help them create more useful applications, enhance their products and shorten the
