T-Mobile US blasted a recent study on the potential revenue that would be lost by limiting participation of AT&T Mobility and Verizon Wireless in the upcoming 600 MHz broadcast incentive auctions, arguing that the study actually affirms T-Mobile's own positions on the highly charged topic.

Japan's SoftBank increased its bid for Sprint Nextel by 7.5 percent to $21.6 billion in an effort to counter Dish Network's competing $25.5 billion bid for Sprint. However, in a blow to Dish's prospects to seal the deal, Sprint said it has ended talks with Dish and that the special committee of its board that is evaluating Dish's proposal found that it "is not reasonably likely to lead to a 'superior offer'" as defined in Sprint's agreement with SoftBank.

AT&T Mobility said it is bringing its Enhanced Push-to-Talk service to business customers through a new app available for Apple's iPhone 5 and iPhone 4S. AT&T boasted that this will be the first time a U.S. carrier is offering push-to-talk capabilities on the iPhone, and the app's launch comes less than three weeks ahead of Sprint Nextel's planned shutdown of its Nextel iDEN network.

AT&T Mobility will now make customers wait 24 months instead of 20 months to upgrade to a new, subsidized device. The move mirrors one that rival Verizon Wireless announced in April.

SoftBank's planned $20.1 billion purchase of a 70 percent stake in Sprint Nextel was cleared by the U.S. Department of Justice, giving a boost to SoftBank as it initiates a $4.2 billion bond offering.

AT&T, battling to keep regulators from restricting its access to spectrum in the upcoming auction of TV broadcast spectrum, said spectrum set-asides proposed by T-Mobile US would curtail auction proceeds earmarked for public-safety communications and thus deprive first responders of the modern communications tools they need.
